People, Planet, Paws: our sustainable journey
Crafting with conscience since 2017
At Samantha Hall Designs, being responsible towards the environment isn't just a trend, it's been woven into the fabric of our business since our founding in 2017. As a female-owned micro business operating from a home office, we're committed to the triple bottom line of People, Planet and Profit, guiding every decision from product design to delivery.

"We're proud to demonstrate that beautiful, meaningful pet-inspired stationery can be created while respecting and protecting our environment." - Samantha Hall, Founder
Our reduced plastic guarantee
We've established a strict reduced-plastic policy throughout our entire operation:
- Custom, durable card packaging made from FSC-certified materials
- Plastic-free shipping with paper tape, cardboard void fill, and compostable mailers
- Natural alternatives for traditionally plastic components
- Zero single-use plastics in the office
Our products are designed with the planet in mind while delighting our customers, proving that beautiful design and environmental responsibility can go hand-in-hand.
We are currently exploring plastic-free options for our stickers, so we can be officially plastic-free.
Responsibly sourced materials
Our sustainable journey begins with carefully selected partners who share our environmental values:
- FSC-certified paper: All our notebooks and cards use paper from responsibly managed forests
- Eco-friendly dyes: Our fabric products feature water-based dyes that minimise environmental impact
- Local partnerships: We work with a Brighton seamstress for our scrunchies and cushions, supporting our community while reducing transportation emissions
- European suppliers: Our materials come from sources meeting strict environmental standards
We believe transparency matters. Our primary manufacturer's carbon reporting demonstrates their commitment to continuous improvement in reducing environmental impact.

Helping animal charities raise funds
Beyond environmental sustainability, we believe in social responsibility. We've established a special partnership with Serbia's Forgotten Paws, where:
- We donate surplus and sale products to support rescue dogs
- We've created custom Christmas cards specifically for the charity to sell
- This initiative holds special meaning for us as it's where our own rescue dog, Moko, found his forever home
Through these contributions, we help generate vital funding for animal rescue operations while giving our products a meaningful second life.
Committed to SDG 15: Life on Land
-
Our business practices align with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 15, focusing on protecting life on land:
- Sourcing raw materials from FSC-managed forests
- Using responsibly sourced cotton for textile products
- Saving energy and reducing waste across operations
- Exploring partnerships with Forestry England to support tree planting
- Working to establish wild areas that encourage biodiversity
We understand that the wellbeing of pets and wildlife is intrinsically linked to the health of our planet.
Circular economy in action
We're working to close the loop on waste through innovative practices:
- Reusing shipping materials from our suppliers for customer orders
- Donating unsold products to charities for resale
- Ensuring all products can be recycled or repurposed
- Transforming damaged goods into new products
- Providing clear disposal instructions for all packaging
These circular practices help minimise our environmental footprint while maximising the value of resources.

Reducing our carbon footprint
We're taking concrete steps to minimise our climate impact:
- Transitioning to an electric van for event transportation
- Consolidating shipments to reduce delivery journeys
- Using renewable energy for our electricity needs
- Implementing a 'switch-off' policy for all equipment
- Exploring carbon offset programs for unavoidable emissions
- Enrolling in Carbon Literacy training to deepen our understanding

Our sustainable roadmap
Our journey doesn't stop here. We're committed to continuous improvement through:
- Setting measurable carbon reduction targets
- Expanding circular economy initiatives
- Researching new eco-friendly materials
- Developing end-of-life programs for our products
- Creating educational content about product care and longevity
- Strengthening our relationship with animal welfare organisations
